SwitchBot Meter Pro CO2: accuracy, calibration and Canadian buying guide

Meter Pro (CO2 Monitor) measures carbon dioxide, temperature and humidity and displays them with time, date and a comfort indicator. It helps reveal when a room needs ventilation; it does not clean the air, diagnose health effects or replace a certified building assessment.

Short answer

A useful NDIR monitor when its ±(50 ppm + 5% of reading) CO2 tolerance is acceptable and the sensor can sit away from breath, windows and blocked vents. Battery operation favours long life but updates CO2 every 30 minutes by default; USB-C power changes the default to one minute and can reach one-second sampling, with a heat-and-accuracy caution below one minute.

Good fit

This product may fit if…

  • You want a visible CO2 number to guide ventilation in a bedroom, office, classroom or shared room.
  • The published tolerance is sufficient for trend and threshold decisions rather than laboratory-grade measurement.
  • You can position the vents away from direct breathing, open windows, heating outlets and direct sunlight.
  • You understand which remote alerts, automations, weather data and cloud history require a compatible SwitchBot hub.

Stop before buying

Do not order yet if…

  • You need certified occupational, medical, legal or building-code measurements rather than a consumer monitor.
  • You expect the device to filter particles or lower CO2 by itself; it only measures and reports conditions.
  • You need a constantly illuminated display beside the bed; official support confirms there is no backlight.
  • The installation blocks the sensor vents or uses batteries outside the recommended 5°C to 45°C range.

Installation

Five-step verification plan

  1. 1

Choose a representative breathing-zone location away from a person's face, open windows, doors, vents, cooking and direct sunlight.

  2. 2

Keep the sensor openings clear and select AA battery operation for long life or USB-C for faster CO2 updates.

  3. 3

Add the monitor to the current SwitchBot app, update firmware and let readings stabilize before changing thresholds.

  4. 4

If calibration is needed, place it outdoors in a well-ventilated area, start calibration within Bluetooth range and leave it unmoved for five minutes.

  5. 5

Add a compatible hub only for phone alerts, CO2-triggered automations, remote/cloud history or weather functions you will use.

After installation

What ownership requires

  • Compare readings only after monitors share the same location for several minutes with vents clear; normal tolerance can produce visibly different numbers.
  • Avoid continuous sub-minute sampling unless needed because sensor heat can affect temperature and humidity accuracy.
  • Export local history before a factory reset; official support warns that resetting erases stored device data.

FAQ

Questions before buying

Does Meter Pro CO2 need a hub?

Not for local display, buzzer, Bluetooth app access or 38-day local storage. A compatible hub is required for remote phone alerts, CO2-based SwitchBot automations, cloud history and the published weather functions.

Why does CO2 update slowly on batteries?

The battery default is one CO2 reading every 30 minutes to support roughly one year of battery life. Press the top button for a manual reading or use 5V/1A USB-C power for a one-minute default interval.

Can it control a fan when CO2 is high?

With a compatible SwitchBot hub, official support allows CO2 level to become a SwitchBot Automation condition. The actual ventilation device, safe switching method and fail-safe behaviour still need separate verification.
