Will a smart thermostat save 20% automatically?

No. Hilo’s “up to 20%” relates to winter billing with Flex D and peak management. It is not a universal hardware saving.

Should I multiply 8% by my whole electricity bill?

No. The ENERGY STAR figure applies to heating and cooling costs in its program context. Estimate the heating portion first and disclose that the benchmark is not specific to Quebec baseboards.

What creates the savings?

Lower setpoints during sleep or absence, fewer forgotten high settings and, for Flex D, reduced peak consumption. Connectivity alone does not reduce heat loss.

How long should I measure?
