Floor-only is a deliberate, limited choice
A floor-only robot can be appropriate for a simple above-ground pool when the owner already brushes the walls. It should not be presented as equivalent to wall or waterline cleaning.
Wall cleaning stops before the waterline on some models
A wall-capable model may climb without travelling laterally along the waterline. Require an explicit waterline capability when the visible ring is the problem you want the robot to address.
Steps and shallow ledges are separate geometry
Do not infer step coverage from wall climbing. Step width, water depth, edges and the robot's turning room can change whether a model reaches and remains on the surface.
Pool area is a capacity check, not a shape guarantee
Length multiplied by width provides a consistent first filter. Slopes, drains, rounded transitions, freeform basins and islands still need their own evidence.
Plan retrieval after the cleaning cycle
Compare dry weight, water-filled lifting effort, retrieval method and basket access. These details determine whether a cordless robot remains convenient after every cycle.
